The main active ingredient of Ladies Thistle fruit belong to flavonolignans and named silymarin.

Ladies Thistle fruits contain at least 20% stable oil which compromise fatty acids such as linoleic acid, oleic acid and palmitic acid.

Fruits contain flavonoids like quercitin, kampferol and also dehydrokampferol.

Species cultivated in Europe contain 3 flavonolignan, silyhermin, neosilyhermin A & B additionally to those mentioned above. Probable primers reported include naringenin, eriodictiol, apigenin and chrisovariol.
