Wild caraway is a perennial plant with round tuberous roots, stem height 40-60 cm, leaves grow from the base with long petioles, cladodes with short sheaths and little wide, petals 1 mm long, fruits long and narrow, 4-5 mm long and green to brown in color.

Chemical composition of wild caraway: Fruits contain 3% essential oil and the major constituents are Monoterpenes, Myrcene and γ-Terpinene. P-Cymene, Cuminaldehyde, Carveol and arvone Oxide are also found in lower values.

Carvone amount is negligible in this plant species and the seeds contain 0.1%.
